A girl has been killed after picking up a loaded gun, apparently mistaking it for a Wii Remote gun-style controller.

Three year-old Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan from Wilson County Tennessee died from a single self-inflicted shot to the abdomen from a .380 calibre semi-automatic pistol. The loaded firearm had been left on the coffee table in the living room of the girl’s house, after her stepfather thought he had heard a prowler outside.

According to the child’s mother, Cheyenne had been playing a Wii game that uses a gun peripheral - not one manufactured or approved by Nintendo (seen in the picture, underneath the handgun used in the shooting) - shortly before the accident occurred. The youngster was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe is investigating the case, although has not yet brought any charges relating to this tragic incident.

This is a very sad event, when will America learn and tighten up there gun laws.
You would think the father would keep the gun we out of harms way when you have a child of 3 years in the house.
All in all a very sad story.

Its not only the wii but other consoles like Ps2 Ps3 they have most of the shooting games that should be banned a long time ago, they are so many out there and you know kid spend more time on them things than going out into the real world, god only know what they pick up and learn from those games, gun games should be banned like the real guns are banned in this country , that's were the problem lies country's that allow guns, and may be another child of 3 will not have to die to get this message across, guns are evil, guns kill.

My Wii package, nice friendly sport, dancing and Mario carts, It does keep you fit, there are some games that gives you a real workout getting your heart pumping, I thought it was all talk but its true.

And the best thing about this package its gun free.

My post was sarcastic, which you appear to have missed. Blaming games for violent crime increases is rubbish. There have also been claims that racing games are causing everyone to speed. Which includes your "Mario Karts", racing, whilst dropping objects, causing other people to have accidents so that you can win.

A game in which you stroll across a nice empty, peaceful field isn't exactly much fun is it?

You do know that before these games came along people were killing each other with guns? and before guns it was swords, arrows etc. If you want to blame someone or something blame the parents, the gun manufactures and most of all, society.

If you want to believe in psychics, fine.Your world is probably more fun than the real one. There's no death, just an afterlife filled with magic spirits who like to communicate with eerie, otherwise-unemployable bottom-of-the-barrel showmen back on Earth.

I have never really been into gaming but ever since I played super mario on my nintendo many years ago I have not been able to walk past a mushroom without jumping on it. I live in fear of seeing a turtle while there is an RSPCA inspector around.
